'Stitching With Liz & Helen' is a collaboration between two Royal School of Needlework tutors, Liz Tapper & Helen Jones (www.stitchwork.co.uk), to bring the art of needlework to Exeter. We aim to provide classes in a range of techniques and for varying skill levels.

Please do get in touch if there's a particular course you would like to see listed.

Learn a variety of textural surface stitches using white threads on white fabric

to create a waterlily design.

Mountmellick embroidery is a whitework technique dating back to 19th century Ireland. It uses “satin jean” fabric and cotton threads of different weights. It mixes lots of textural stitches to create images from nature, typically flowers and grasses. The technique can also be used for more contemporary designs. During the day you will sample a variety of stitches before starting to apply them to the waterlily design provided. Stitches will include mountmellick stitch, voided satin stitch, braid stitch, chain stitch, stem stitch etc.

This is for those of you who enjoy surface stitches and textures.

Kit costs £20 , payable to the tutor on the day.

There will be an hour’s break for lunch at 1pm. Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the class price. There are shops nearby for lunch, but it may be easier to bring a packed lunch.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn a traditional hand embroidery technique, in the relaxing environment of Exeter Community Centre, situated in the lovely city of Exeter.
