Stumpwork: 'Memory Flowers'
3-4 Aug 2019 10am-4pm (two day class)
RSN Bristol, 38 Old School House, Kingswood Estate,
Britannia Road, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 8DB
£182 includes kit.
This delicate ‘memory’ flower is embroidered in the Raised Embroidery technique, using tiny stitches over a wire outline. Each petal and leaf will use fabric that means something to you (please bear in mind that the fabric will be cut up for this embroidery). The wire for each section is carefully moulded to shape by hand, before being applied to the fabric, then stitched over to secure and cover the wire outlines. When all the petals and leaves have been stitched, they will then be carefully cut out, before being applied to the
background fabric and gently bent to shape.
The background fabric should also be a fabric that means something to you, preferably providing a contrast to the flower fabric. Padded French knots complete the centre of the flower.
Please bring a selection of fabrics that mean something to you to use for the flowers and background – i.e. old baby clothes, ties, blankets, linens. The fabric for the flower should not be loosely woven or easy to unravel. I used scraps of antique embroidered linen in white for the petals and leaves and a brown hessian for the background as a contrast, however any colour will be suitable.
Size of finished embroidery: 10cm x 10cm
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at 38 The Old School House, Kingswood Estate, Britannia Road, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 8DB. This is a two day class and costs £182 which includes the price of the kit.
